Welcome

Welcome to the Third Nordic Conference on South Asian Studies for Young Scholars!

Falsterbo, Sweden, 16–18 August 2011

The Swedish South Asian Studies Network (SASNET) and the Nordic Institute of Asian Studies (NIAS) are organizing the Third Nordic Conference on South Asian Studies for Young Scholars to be held from 16–18 August in Falsterbo, Sweden. This interdisciplinary conference will feature panels on:

• Gender
• Climate Change
• Mapping the Mental Landscape of Eurasia
• Alternative Careers

In addition to these panels, the young scholars participating in the conference will have the possibility to present and discuss within thematic group sessions their current or prospective research projects and receive feedback.

NOTE: The papers/research projects presented in the thematic groups can be in fields outside of the main panel topics, and could be within, for example, political and social studies; history, religion, cultural studies; media and communication studies; business and administration, etc.  Therefore, submissions in all fields related to South Asia are welcome!

The thematic groups will be interdisciplinary and are aiming at giving a broader perspective and ideas to the participants from a variety of angles and relevant research fields.

There will also be informal occasions on which to make contact with colleagues in other Nordic countries and talk about career planning and conducting research in South Asian Studies.
The conference will also provide an opportunity to learn about ongoing Nordic activities related to South Asian Studies, as well as discuss vital issues related to gender, climate changes, mentality and local culture, ICT and development, and alternate career paths outside of academia.

Those studying for their masters, Ph.D. candidates, and postdoctoral researchers in all disciplines who are affiliated with Nordic Universities and have South-Asian focus are invited to apply.
